Attention, BMW fans: The moment is upon is. You’re finally seeing the all-new 2017 BMW 5 Series for the very first time. Here’s what we know: The outside of the new 5 Series has a bit of "baby 7 Series" to it — specifically the distinctive hockey-stick line that runs from the rear of the front fender down either side of the car. Naturally, the new 5 Series also offers refined lines that give it a more modern look, along with a larger overall shape (it’s 1.2 inches longer and 0.3 inches wider than the outgoing model), though BMW says the car has lost about 140 pounds thanks to the use of new and improved materials.
Inside, BMW says the 5 Series gets a lot of improvements, including the brand’s new Gesture Control feature, which is linked to its iDrive 6.0 infotainment system. Naturally, BMW also notes the interior is quieter and more comfortable than ever before.
The 2017 5 Series lineup will debut with two engines under the hood. The 530i will use a 248-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, while the 540i will offer a 335-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder. While both models will offer rear- or all-wheel drive, there’s no stick shift — and no word on whether one is in the pipeline. There’s also no V8, though the muscular M550i and the 530e plug-in hybrid should find their way to the U.S. market soon after the sedan goes on sale. Find a 2017 BMW 5 Series for sale
