This pristine low-mileage Dodge 600 Convertible was chosen as today’s Autotrader find in part because well, your author here doesn’t really know much about these and I thought it would be a good opportunity for us all to learn a little more about one of Dodge’s notorious K-car offerings.
The midsize Dodge 600 was sold from 1983 through 1988. Three body styles were offered – sedan, coupe, and convertible. The sedan was built on Chrysler’s ‘E-Body’ platform, which also underpinned the Chrysler E-Class, Chrysler New Yorker, and Plymouth Caravelle. The 600 coupe and convertible were sold from 1984 through 1987, and rode on the K-body platform, which was shared with the Dodge Aries, Dodge 400, Plymouth Reliant, and Chrysler LeBaron. Despite its varying underpinnings, the Dodge 600 was marketed as a midsize vehicle. It was meant to compete with European sedans, and its front and rear styling was clearly intended to mimic the lines of Mercedes-Benz models from the era. In reality though, the 600 was cross-shopped with more mainstream American models like the Chevrolet Celebrity, Ford LTD, Ford Taurus, and others.
This particular Dodge 600 Convertible hails from the 1986 model year. The exterior is cream-colored, while the interior is a dark beige; a popular combination for the era. It uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission. As with all K- and E-body cars, that engine sends power to the front wheels. What’s especially notable about this Dodge 600 Convertible is that it’s in excellent condition, and comes with just 30,106 miles on its odometer. Not much additional information is offered in the listing, but based on photos, we can tell that it’s in near-perfect shape, with clean paint, shiny wheels, and an interior that looks as it did when this car was new 35 years ago.
