Autotrader Find: 2005 Scion xB with Braun Rampvan Conversion

If you need a wheelchair-friendly vehicle, your options are pretty limited. Almost all automobiles that are accessible by wheelchair are minivans. I’m a big fan of minivans and the practicality they offer, but what if you want something a little different in a handicap accessible vehicle? Behold this Autotrader Find; a 2005 Scion xB with a Braun Rampvan conversion.

The Beginning of Scion

The Scion xB was one of the cars that launched the ill-fated Scion brand when it was founded in 2003. Scion was a Toyota sub-brand intended to be youth-oriented and focused on affordable cars that were highly customizable with factory and dealer options. The xB was a mini MPV known as the Toyota bB in Japan and brought here flying the Scion flag as an off-beat, yet practical little hatchback/crossover thing.

The Scion xB was pretty popular, but not quite with the crowd that Toyota was expecting. Like the similarly proportioned Kia Soul, the xB was popular with, shall we say, a more “mature” clientele who liked that it was as easy to get in and out of as a La-Z-Boy.

Another demographic that Scion may not have expected for the xB were folks who need a wheelchair accessible vehicle. The boxy, space-efficient shape made it a great candidate for taking out the back seats and installing a wheelchair ramp.

A Frugal Choice

Here’s the thing about wheelchair vans; the conversions are pretty expensive. I assume the xB Rampvan was a more affordable alternative to a minivan (already a more expensive vehicle than the xB) with the Entervan conversion. Not to mention a Scion xB with a ramp is a much more interesting and unique vehicle than just another minivan with a similar conversion.

Speaking of affordability, the asking price for this xB Rampvan is $9,990. That would normally be a little high for a 2005 xB, but this one is obviously not your average Scion. It only has about 31,500 miles on the clock and appears to be in great condition based on the photos. Any handicap accessible vehicle with that kind of mileage for under $10k is a steal. The fact that this is a quirky purple xB is a great bonus. Find a Scion xB for sale
