If you’ve ever found yourself searching for an ambulance, now’s your chance to finally pull the trigger. This 2008 Chevy Kodiak is listed for sale on Autotrader at Silver Star Motors in the Dallas suburb of Cedar Hill, Texas, with 125,000 miles for $24,995. And it’s everything you could possibly want in an ambulance.
For instance: It has an AD244 Delco-Remy 150-amp, and a 5.5K ONAN. I have no idea what these things are, but it has them. It also has a snow plow prep package, a greatly improved battery, a strengthened frame and, of course, a huge box on the back where you can store medical supplies. It is, after all, an ambulance.
My favorite thing about this ambulance, however, is its appearance. Yes, it looks like an ambulance, of course. But they also pulled off only the name of the city or town where it was previously used, leaving on virtually everything else — including the words "FIRE/EMS" and "FIRE DEPARTMENT," just without the name of the city. That makes it look like one of those Hot Wheels or Matchbox toy ambulances, where they leave it generic so they just put "FIRE RESCUE" or "MATCHBOX FIRE DEPARTMENT" with no city name.
But this is, of course, no toy, and it uses a 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 that probably has something like 175 horsepower and 9,400 lb-ft of torque. The Carfax report says it was sold new in McKinney, Texas, and maintained religiously at El Dorado Chevrolet Mazda in McKinney when it wasn’t saving lives. Now that McKinney presumably has a new ambulance, you could have this one.
