Here’s a rather odd sighting: a 2008 Ford F-350 Super Duty that looks like every other 2008 Super Duty, except that it’s driven 809,000 miles. That’s right — it’s covered 809,000 miles in 10 years, or 80,000 miles annually since it was first purchased. A simple division problem tells us that’s about 222 miles a day, every single day, for 10 years.
This Super Duty is offered by North Main Motors in Marysville, Ohio, outside Columbus. It’s bargain-priced for a Super Duty, available for just $15,000, which is especially low for a truck with the highly desirable 6.4-liter turbodiesel V8. But then, there’s the issue of the mileage.
So let’s discuss the mileage — or, at least, what we can learn from the Carfax report about the mileage. According to Carfax, this truck was sold at the end of January 2009 and registered in the Orlando area. It was serviced occasionally in Florida, but also in Washington in September 2009 (16,900 miles), in Indiana in April 2010 (34,600 miles), in North Dakota in April 2010, in Illinois in October 2010, in Minnesota in July 2012 (232,000 miles), in California in December 2012 (279,000 miles), in Indiana in August 2014 (462,000 miles), in California in December 2014 (486,000 miles), in Iowa in March 2015 (494,000 miles), in Utah later that same month (497,000 miles), in Indiana in April 2015 (505,000 miles), in Indiana in November 2016 (675,000 miles), in Texas in January 2017 (687,000 miles) and in Indiana in June 2017 (723,000 miles). Simply put, this truck has been everywhere.
It’s had just one owner, meaning it likely served as a hauler of some sort, with its strong diesel engine easily powering the truck all over the country. Now that it’s finally on sale, I’m unsure how much life it has left. But my feeling is that if it’s gone this far, it probably can stick around for more. To find out just how much more, you’ll have to decide whether you want to roll the dice.
