If you’re looking for a sturdy, thick, stable, safe vehicle, it’s likely the Mercedes G-Class will fit your needs — it looks like a bank vault from the outside, feels like a cocoon from the inside and your driving position makes you feel like you own the road and everything in it. And yet … this one goes above and beyond all that.
This 2014 G63 AMG is offered for $250,000 by a private seller in the San Francisco Bay Area city of San Ramon, and the listing says that it’s "fully armed," which I take to mean "fully armored." Indeed, the pictures prove it: This G63 has tremendously thick windows designed to stop bullets, and boasts a lot of other armor, too. In fact, the listing notes that this G63 "comes with BZ100 supplementary undercarriage IED/bomb protection," and further says it will also protect against hand grenades and other explosives.
Beyond the armor underneath this G63, this listing further notes that there’s a lot of other protection, too — such as specialized tires with a "run flat insert," a self-sealing fuel tank, armored fenders, an armored hood, extra radiator protection and enhanced bumpers.
And then there’s all the stuff that goes beyond the armor. For instance, how about the fact that this G63 is fitted with a "four-camera DVR mobile-surveillance system"? Or the fact that the doors feature a deadbolt locking system? There’s also a siren, a loudspeaker, front and rear strobe lights, and — my personal favorite — electric shocking door handles. Yes, you read that right.
This G63 is three years old and it’s covered around 7,700 miles, which may lead you to ask: Who would need all this armor? The listing claims it was originally built for noted billionaire Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle and financial backer of the truly unbelievable U.S. victory in the 2013 America’s Cup yacht race. It makes sense that Ellison would have tight security, of course, but there’s no guarantee this was actually his G63.
Nonetheless, now it can be your G63. You’ll never have to worry about the masses ever again. And if one of them does approach you, simply deadbolt your door and turn on the electric-shock door handles. Find a 2014 G 63 AMG for sale
