Today on Autotrader Find, I'm bringing you something red and governmenty: a 1999 Chevy Tahoe originally owned by the Highwood Fire Department in the Chicago area and still wonderfully preserved. It's offered for sale for $7,995.

Unfortunately, if you had come in here to see a Chevy Tahoe converted into a fire engine, you're not going to go away happy. In fact, you'll probably be disappointed -- as I am, since I had become especially excited about the idea of a vehicle that's half Chevy Tahoe and half hook-and-ladder fire truck, complete with hoses and pumps.

Still, this thing is pretty cool. It was a "Fire Chief" unit, which likely means it was driven to the fire after the big hook-and-ladder trucks in order to supervise things. It's a 2-wheel drive vehicle, odd considering its Chicago heritage, and it's said to have just 61,000 original miles -- a fact that's backed up by the Carfax report, which shows that it had 55,000 miles when the fire department released it in 2009.

Offered for sale by Chicago Motors in Chicago, which bills itself as a "used police car dealership," this Tahoe is in excellent exterior shape -- though the listing doesn't include any interior photos. Still, this is a pretty cool fire-department memento -- especially considering it has an accident-free, two-owner Carfax report, and it's offered for just $7,995.
