Here on Autotrader Find, I usually try to feature weird, low-mileage cars, or perhaps vehicles that have been excessively modified. Today's Find is both: a Lotus Exige that has been heavily modified to become a Hennessey Venom GT, arguably the fastest production car in the world.

For those of you who don't know the Hennessey Venom GT story, here it is: The Venom GT is a Lotus Exige that's been stretched and altered and revised and changed by Hennessey Performance in Texas, to the point where only the middle section really still looks like a Lotus. For power, the Venom GT uses a 7.0-liter V8 -- and if that wasn't enough, it's twin turbocharged. The result is 1,450 horsepower and 1,287 lb-ft of torque, all fed through what must be the world's strongest 6-speed manual transmission.

As for the word "arguably" in front of the Venom's "world's fastest" title: Back in 2014, the Venom GT hit 270.49 miles per hour in Florida, on the space shuttle's landing strip at the Kennedy Space Center. The Venom GT's speed is unquestionable: What's arguable, instead, is whether the Venom GT qualifies as a "production car." These things are hand-built, quite slowly, taking an existing production car and modifying it. Does that make it a production car? It's up for debate -- but either way, it seems that Hennessey has already cranked out more than a dozen of these things.

This particular Venom GT has wound up in the unlikeliest of places: Choice Auto Sales in rural Murrysville, Pennsylvania, an exurb of Pittsburgh. In addition to the Venom GT, Choice Auto Sales' inventory also includes a 2002 Acura MDX and a 2008 Kia Sedona with 140,000 miles. With an asking price of $1.25 million, I think the Venom GT costs more than the rest of this dealer's inventory -- combined.
