Autotrader Find: Low-Mile 1986 Honda Prelude Si

You’re looking at a 1986 Honda Prelude Si with 61,100 original miles, currently listed for sale on Autotrader. There aren’t too many of these 1980s Prelude models left, period, let alone in this condition, as this one is truly a time capsule.

Offered for sale by Maguire and Sons Auto Brokers in Virginia Beach, Virginia, this Prelude was the top-of-the-line model in 1986, the sporty Si. Unfortunately, it’s dulled by its automatic transmission, but the simple truth is that beggars can’t be choosers when it comes to the few remaining 1980s Honda Preludes. Although this Prelude isn’t in as perfect shape as some of the low-mile oddities I feature here on Autotrader Find, it’s still unusually nice for a car that’s gained some respect in recent years for its small size and no-frills driving experience.

Maguire and Sons is asking $8,900 for the Si, and the Carfax report seems to illustrate that it’s primarily a one-owner vehicle in the Virginia Beach area: The Si was sold new on September 4, 1986, and apparently remained with the original owner until late 2017. It’s black with a gray cloth interior, and it even features the correct wheels — along with the hilarious chrome wheel arches that were dealer-installed on many cars in the 1980s.

If you’ve been interested in checking out an early Prelude Si, now might be your chance to pick one up — automatic or not, it may be the nicest one you’ll find. Find a Honda Prelude for sale

  1. Great car.  Wrong transmission.  I went to look at one of these back around 1991 or so.  Unfortunately, the 1985 Audi 4000S I was driving at the time imploded on the way down to the dealership and they weren’t overly interested in trading their perfectly-running, blue metallic, manual trans Si for a busted (though super clean!) 4000S.

  2. I used to have a clean example of an ’89 Si with All Wheel Steering, manual transmission and it was a lot of fun to drive.  The car was bulletproof except they tended to rust very quickly around the wheel wells and front windshield.  I’m sure there aren’t many left in the North due to this and anyone in the early 2000s who “hooked up” their car.

  3. It’s true that these have become rare to see.
Low miles on this car and one-owner, but auto + chrome wheel arches = crack pipe.
The 1988 Prelude (third generation) looks 1000’xs better.
