This is a low-mileage 2002 BMW Z8 that is currently listed for sale for $299,000. Let me repeat that: You're looking at a 15-year-old BMW with an asking price of three hundred thousand dollars. And that isn't out of line with other Z8 asking prices -- though this is the lowest-mileage example listed on Autotrader.

For those of you who don't know the Z8, here's the situation: It's an absolutely gorgeous 2-seater roadster manufactured by BMW from 2000 to 2003. Around 5,700 examples were built for the entire world, with just under half coming to the United States. All standard Z8 models featured a 6-speed manual transmission mated to the 400-hp 4.9-liter V8 from the E39 BMW M5, while an "Alpina" version -- effectively a luxury-oriented Z8 -- used an automatic transmission and a smaller engine. The car was notably featured in the James Bond movie "The World Is Not Enough," where -- if I recall correctly -- it was chopped in half. (Not this one. This one is intact.)

Back when the Z8 came out, it was expensive -- but it wasn't that expensive, as prices started around $130,000, which was about the same money as a Porsche 911 Turbo from the same era. But while you can pick up a 911 Turbo these days for around $40,000, the Z8 has shot up in value -- to the point where this example, with just 3,500 miles, is offered by Maserati of Wilmington Pike in the Philadelphia area for $299,000.

This particular Z8 is black, with a two-tone beige-and-black interior, and it's a gorgeous example. Not only has it covered just 3,500 miles, but it's a one-owner car, with the original owner using it (sparingly) in Delray Beach, Florida, for its entire life. And, like all Z8s, it has everything that makes this car so special: a stick shift, that gorgeous look, and that distinctive interior with the cool steering wheel.

Is it worth $300,000? Hard to say -- but this might just be the nicest Z8 in the country.
