Autotrader Find: Low-Mileage Nissan NV200 New York City Taxi

Here on Autotrader Find, my goal is to highlight the strangest cars on Autotrader. Today, I have certainly done that. This is a 2014 Nissan NV200 van, painted in New York City taxi livery. It has tremendously low miles for a taxi. And it’s for sale at a used-car dealership in Northern Kentucky.

This 2014 Nissan NV200 features all the correct New York City taxi details, including the light on top, the lighted signs in the back doors, the New York City taxi logos, the vinyl rear seats and the central partition. It even has a hole in the hood where the medallion would go, covered by a plug. In other words, this is the real deal. See the 2014 Nissan NV200 models for sale near you

Except it isn’t. In place of a New York City taxi number, this NV200 has the number 2013. It only has 18,000 miles on the odometer, which is usually about 3 months of driving for a New York City taxi, not 2 years. Oh, and the other obvious giveaway that this isn’t really a New York City taxi: It’s for sale at a dealership in Kentucky.

Offered by Northern Kentucky Auto Sales in the Cincinnati suburb of Wilder, Kentucky, I suspect this 2014 NV200 was a promotional vehicle for Nissan to try to convince local governments to adopt the van as the Taxi of Tomorrow. If that’s true, it worked, as New York City did select the NV200 as its taxi — though the entire Taxi of Tomorrow thing has faced numerous legal challenges and was never fully implemented.

Still, if you’ve ever wanted to feel like a New York City cabbie — without occupational hazards such as being spit on or listening to drunk people loudly attempt to use FaceTime — this is your chance. This 2014 NV200 is available for $16,995. Find a 2014 Nissan NV200 for sale

  1. Maybe an NYC cabbie simply had enough of the city, drove as far as he could and stopped in Kentucky to begin a new life.

    • Sorta. That was my immediate thought as well, but these have never really been accepted by the people. Be honest, when you think NYC taxi do you think of this? No. You probably think of either a Checker Marathon or a Crown Vic.

At the end of the day these are valuable to be period accurate but little else. They also aren’t ubiquitous, there are ford explorers, minivans etc.
  2. Not only does this dealership have one of these, but they actually have 3 of them! Time to start your own taxi business.
