Although the muscle car trend died down with the rising gas prices of the early 1970s, the Buick GNX is here to remind you that it didn't completely end. This particular GNX may be the best reminder of that, as it's a mint 1987 model with just 1,731 original miles -- basically, a factory fresh example of one of GM's coolest 1980s products.

The story of the high-performance Buick is interesting: In the 1980s, Buick introduced a high-performance version of the Regal, designed to capitalize on the automaker's NASCAR success in the earlier part of the decade. The car was called the Grand National, and it instantly became an icon.

At the end of production, Buick created an ultimate version called the "GNX" with extra power and torque -- supposedly around 300 horsepower and 420 lb-ft. I say "supposedly" because it's generally agreed that Buick intentionally underrated the GNX's numbers due to a mandate from GM brass that nothing could top the Corvette; Buick officially said the figures were 276 hp and 360 lb-ft.

Regardless of the real figures, this is likely one of the best-preserved examples of the GNX still around, having traveled just 1,731 miles from new. The Carfax report verifies this claim, noting that it was originally sold in October 1987 in New York, and it had covered 1,580 miles by the next Carfax event in 1998 in New Jersey.

It's now offered by Chevrolet of Dover in Dover, Delaware, with the impressively low odometer reading sure to raise eyeballs -- right along with its huge asking price of $149,899. That's a big figure, sure, but this is one of the most collectible Buick models ever made -- and this is undoubtedly one of the best-preserved examples of it.
