One of the interesting automotive trends I've noticed in the last few years is the massive recent rise in Jeep Grand Wagoneer prices. I always sort of wanted one of these, and now the prices for nice ones have far exceeded what I'd be willing to pay for a carbureted SUV with no safety features and a design that's rooted in the 1960s.

A case in point is this one, which is currently listed for sale on Autotrader. This is a 1988 Grand Wagoneer, finished in dark red with a red interior and (of course) wood panels on the side, and it seems to be in very nice shape: The exterior is excellent, and while there aren't many interior pictures, it looks better than it should for a 30-year-old vehicle designed to be used as a family hauler.

The drawback: It's fifty grand.

Yes, that's right. This thing is fifty grand. And before you go accusing the selling dealership of some sort of ridiculous listing price just for attention, you should know that this is where the market is on these things. There are several really nice Grand Wagoneers listed on Autotrader for over $40,000, and very many for over $30,000. This one is especially nice, as it has a claimed 55,000 original miles -- but many have higher miles and full restorations to justify their crazy prices, too. It's madness!

But this one may just be the best. Sold new in Alabama, it later spent 10 years in the ski town of Sun Valley, Idaho, before relocating to Pennsylvania where it's offered by Jim Babish Auto Sales in rural Johnstown, near Pittsburgh. If you want the perfect Grand Wagoneer, here it is. For $50,000.
