An all-new redesigned BMW 5 Series is on the way, and some recent spy shots give us an idea of exactly what it will look like. While the popular luxury car is wearing some camouflage in the shots, the images still preview the next-generation 5 Series in all three of its body styles: sedan, wagon and the 5-door GT hatchback.
So what’s changing? If these shots are to believed, not too much. While the car certainly appears a little longer and wider than its predecessor, the overall design remains restrained and simple, keeping with BMW’s recent styling trends. It’s a big difference compared to the 5 Series’ last redesign in 2010, when it was substantially overhauled.
With that said, the BMW 5 Series GT model looks a little sportier than the current version — likely an intentional move to address criticism that the current 5 Series GT looks a little swollen. The wagon looks larger and more practical than the current model, though not relevant for U.S. car shoppers, as BMW hasn’t offered the 5 Series wagon stateside in several years.
Although BMW hasn’t officially announced any key details about the latest 5 Series, we’re looking forward to seeing the car when it’s fully revealed sometime in the next year.
