Consumers frustrated with finding a parking space in about 250 cities nationwide will be getting some help. Well, they will if they buy a new BMW. Parkmobile, North America’s leading parking solutions provider, will now be able to help BMW drivers find, reserve and pay for on-street and off-street parking through a Parkmobile app built into the vehicle’s infotainment system head unit. It won’t be displayed among the apps on the touchscreen. Instead, it’s integrated into the navigation system. Owners of the BMW 5 Series have been able to locate and reserve parking spots through their dashboard since last year. Now, however, drivers across BMW’s product lineup will not only be able to find and reserve a parking spot, but pay for it, too.
Using the BMW’s GPS and map touchscreen, Parkmobile will reveal all of its nearby available parking locations. Drivers will be able to complete the parking process with basically one touch. The system allows the preselection of the length of the parking session, which the driver then pays for through the touchscreen. Using the Parkmobile app on their smart phones (or BMW’s ParkNow app) drivers may extend their parking sessions without returning to the vehicle.
According to Parkmobile, this is the world’s first end-to-end parking solution built into vehicles by the carmaker.
