What is it about cars that already look crazy receiving extra crazy paint jobs? I’ve started to notice that the cars with the most outrageous custom paint jobs are cars that already stick out like a sore thumb, even in their normal paint from the factory. I guess the type of folks who drive cars like the Chevy SSR and Plymouth Prowler want to turn as many heads as they can, and adding an eye-catching, one-of-a-kind paint job can be a great way to do that.
Here are some of the cars on Autotrader with the craziest custom paint jobs.
Someone decided that the Chevy SSR doesn’t look weird enough on its own. In order to make this obscure, retro-inspired convertible pickup truck stand out even more, this SSR has been given a very vibrant custom paint job. It consists of yellow on the bottom half, orange above the beltline and some bright lime green on the spoiler and in a stripe surrounding the truck that culminates in tribal tattoos on the doors. It’s for sale in Louisville, Ohio, with an asking price of $34,750 and it only has 3,624 miles on the clock. Find a Chevrolet SSR for sale
The Dodge Viper is another car that has no trouble standing out from the crowd on its own, but this example for sale in Downey, California, has an even greater look-at-me factor than your typical Viper. It’s black with bright green stripes across the top of the car plus green flames on the sides. For an extra touch of green, it has brake calipers to match its flames and stripes. It also has the number 24 emblazoned on the doors. The asking price is $39,999 which is pretty affordable for a Viper with about 23k miles on it, but it’s probably only worth it if you love the color green and the number 24. If you have big dreams of a custom pickup but not a big budget, then this Mazda B-Series for sale in Merrillville, Indiana, with an asking price of just $6,000, could be for you. It has an orange and gray paint scheme with wild designs all the way around the truck. A couple of other aftermarket upgrades include chrome American Racing rims and an Alpine stereo. This appears to be a very clean truck inside and out, which makes it surprising that it has a little over 200,000 miles on it. This is by far the most affordable vehicle on this list and it is proof that you don’t have to spend a fortune to really stand out. Find a Mazda B Series for sale
This Plymouth Prowler for sale in Benton, Louisiana, with an asking price of $23,000, has a paint job that you won’t find on any other Prowler. It’s a purple/silver paint scheme with some sort of zigzag design on the hood. When you open the hood revealing the not-so-mighty Dodge Stratus engine underneath, it also reveals an image of a black panther under the hood. The sides of the car look like they’ve been clawed into by the aforementioned jungle cat. The description of the car says it is “ZZ-Top inspired” and I’m afraid I don’t know enough about ZZ Top to have any idea what this paint job has to do with the rock band. This list wouldn’t be complete without a van. This old Volkswagen Vanagon GL for sale in Tempe, Arizona, for a reasonable $15,999, has a nice infusion of flower power inside and out. The exterior is mostly green with a nice sky blue stripe on the sides and the front. There are flowers tastefully painted all over the van and it says “Belove” on the passenger side and on the rear windshield. On the inside, there’s a couch, some cabinets and a mini-fridge making it kind of like a tiny RV in true Volkswagen van fashion. If a clean, old-school Type 2 van is a little out of your price range, a custom Vanagon like this is a great alternative to the classic VW bus. Find a Volkswagen Vanagon for sale
