Chrysler is taking its SRT performance line on the road. SRT stands for Street & Racing Technology, and is reserved for Chrysler's most powerful models. The automaker recently announced that it is launching the SRT High-Performance Tour, a three-month road trip beginning at Chrysler headquarters and ending at the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas.

Although a manufacturer taking a group of cars on a show-and-tell road trip is nothing new, Chrysler's route certainly is. While it has already planned some stops in cities across the country, Chrysler says the real purpose of its tour is to find "creative ways to celebrate the car culture" - so it left more than half the itinerary open for stops at car clubs and grassroots enthusiasts groups. Clubs interested in hosting the tour can apply on the SRT website, explaining in 100 words or less why they deserve to make the cut.

The idea behind Chrysler's SRT High-Performance Tour stems from Hemi Highway, a similar road trip put on by the automaker last summer. In that event Chrysler pumped up excitement for its performance cars by featuring a sizzling Dodge Challenger SRT-8 392 and Dodge Charger R/T, but this year Chrysler is really upping the ante.

The SRT High-Performance Tour will still feature the Challenger SRT-8 392, but the Charger R/T has been replaced by the wild 2012 Charger SRT-8. They will be joined by the all-new Chrysler 300C SRT-8 and muscular Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8, which debuted at the New York Auto Show in April.

While we're not quite sure where the tour will stop as it crisscrosses the country over the next few months, car clubs with a penchant for muscle cars will find no better summer guest than the SRT High-Performance Tour.
