Ford is asking everyday truck users to test its redesigned full-size pickup in the real world to find out just how much it can handle. As part of the launch of the 2015 Ford F-150, the automaker invites pickup drivers and fans to enter its You Test campaign, which will hand keys to select participants with a job to do. These individuals will be among the first consumers to try out the 2015 F-150.
Ford expects that participants will find the redesigned truck to be more capable, efficient and technologically advanced than its predecessor. Extensive use of high-strength steel for the frame and aluminum alloys for the pickup’s body helped it to shed up to 700 pounds compared to the outgoing model. A new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine is available for the first time and includes start-stop technology to improve fuel economy. Convenience features new to the model include a remote-opening tailgate and a top-view camera system.
So how will the new F-150 stack up in real-world pickup duty? Ford hopes consumer tests will prove its claims. Eric Peterson, marketing manager for Ford F-150, thinks the new truck is ready.
“We’re looking for people that know how to punish a truck,” Peterson said. “Built Ford Tough isn’t just a tag line.”
