As Hurricane Florence approached the Carolinas, General Motors remotely activated OnStar Crisis Assist for all appropriately equipped Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC vehicles. This applies to GM vehicles throughout the Atlantic seaboard states.
Crisis Assist is one of several available features of the subscription OnStar telematics service owned by GM. Through OnStar Crisis Assist, owners of OnStar-equipped vehicles will have access to: 1) a priority 24/7 connection to specially trained OnStar emergency advisers, 2) routing assistance away from problem areas and evacuation routes, 3) assistance locating resources like gas, food, water, medical services and hotels, 4) assistance contacting loved ones through hands-free calling, 5) up-to-the-minute information on Florence and 6) access to and location information provided for first responders.
In activated vehicles, occupants can access an OnStar advisor by pushing the "OnStar" button. For police, fire or an ambulance, push the red "Emergency" button.
Hurricane Florence made landfall on the North Carolina coast Friday morning. Experts anticipate it will track northeast throughout the day on Friday.
