Here Are 5 Great Cheap Autocross Cars for Sale on Autotrader

Autocross is a great, affordable way to satisfy your need for speed. To take part, you really just need a helmet and a car — and technically, just about any car will do. Still, some vehicles excel more than others when it comes to tackling the tight turns found on most autocross courses, and we’ve outlined five cheap autocross cars listed for sale on Autotrader.

2013 Mazda Miata Club

2013 Mazda Miata Club — $15,891

While any Miata will make an exceptional autocross vehicle, we’re going with the NC for this list. Given its added heft and quirky appearance, the NC is the least popular of four generations of the Miata offered over the years, and as a result, it’s a great overall value on the used market. While a folding hardtop is an option, we’d prioritize a soft-top for race-car duty, and we’d also filter our search to show only manual transmission models, which is really the only way to go when it comes to the Miata. Located in Washington state, the Club model shown above comes with added performance bits from the factory that any racer will appreciate. Find a Mazda MX-5 Miata for sale

2015 Ford Fiesta ST

2015 Ford Fiesta ST — $12,900

The Fiesta ST is another great performance car value. Sold from the 2014 to 2019 model years, it offers great handling, a smooth-shifting six-speed manual transmission and a potent 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, putting out between 180 and 197 horsepower, depending on model year. With close to 500 listed on Autotrader, buyers have loads of options to choose from when looking for an affordable Fiesta ST. The one above is listed in Bend, Oregon for just under $13,000 and comes with only 37,000 miles on the odometer. Find a Ford Fiesta for sale

2013 Scion FR-S

2013 Scion FR-S — $13,900

Since it bowed for the 2012 model year, the Subaru BRZ, the Scion FR-S, and the Toyota 86 triplets — co-developed by Subaru and Toyota — have been an affordable and economical means to rear-wheel-drive sports-car ownership. These cars offer a usable amount of power and a low center of gravity, making them great for autocross duty. While both manual and automatic transmissions are offered, we’d absolutely recommend the manual. This one, listed for sale in Birmingham, Alabama, happens to wear a Scion badge on the hood and has about 60,000 miles on it. Find a Scion FR-S for sale

2009 Honda Fit

2009 Honda Fit — $6,000

In your author’s lone autocross experience, the guy dominating the field wasn’t driving a Porsche Boxster or a Lotus Elise or a Ford Mustang. He was in a red Honda Fit. Needless to say, autocrossing is just as much about skill as it is about the type of car you’re driving, but the Fit sure seems like a great vehicle to learn in, given its sporty chassis tuning and small size. It’s also super practical and should be cheap to own overall. Three generations of the Fit have been sold in the United States over the years. We’d look for one with a manual transmission for our competitive exploits. This one, located in Eastern Pennsylvania, should do the trick and only costs $6,000. Find a Honda Fit for sale

2012 Fiat 500 Abarth

2012 Fiat 500 Abarth — $6,250

While the basic Fiat 500 is nothing to write home about, the Abarth comes with some impressive performance credentials. Under the hood is a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder putting out 160 hp. This may not seem like a lot, but given the Abarth’s diminutive size, it’s enough to get it from 0 to 60 in just under 7 seconds and make it a blast to pilot around a racetrack carved out of a parking lot. Helping things further, the 500 Abarth also depreciates at a rapid rate, and it isn’t hard to find early examples for under $7,000 — like the one above, located in Florida with about 80,000 miles on the clock. Find a Fiat 500 for sale
