It probably won’t surprise you to learn that all of the best-preserved older Mazda models currently listed for sale on Autotrader are, in fact, sports cars. It’s rare anyone preserves sedans, family SUVs or minivans, but it’s not particularly uncommon to see well-preserved older sports cars — although these well-preserved older Mazda models are nicer than most.
Here’s an exceptionally low-mileage example of the “NA” Mazda MX-5 Miata, which came out for the 1990 model year. This first-year example, finished in the car’s best-known colors, has traveled just 7,000 miles from new, and it’s tremendously well-preserved in excellent condition with the original factory hardtop. It’s offered by a private seller in Indialantic, Florida, for $28,000.
This Mazda RX-7 is highly appealing, as it’s a rare “FB” model that was sold from 1978 to 1985. Although “FB” RX-7 models aren’t especially rare in general, it’s very uncommon to see one in this sort of excellent condition, as this one has traveled just 16,650 miles from new. It’s offered with a brown exterior and a brown interior, and it’s in fantastic shape — and it’s available at Gas MotorCars in the Atlanta area for $23,500.
The “FC” Mazda RX-7, which was made from 1985 to 1992, is a little rarer than the “FB” model listed above — but, like the FB, it’s especially rare in this condition. This 1987 RX-7 Turbo is in almost unbelievable original condition, with just 23,600 miles and a perfectly-preserved interior and exterior — the likes of which I haven’t seen in years. It’s offered by GR Auto Gallery in Grand Rapids, Michigan, for $28,900.
Although the “FD” RX-7 model, sold from 1993 to 1995 in the United States, is the rarest RX-7 of them all, it’s probably the easiest to find in nice shape as many people preserved them, thinking they’d be worth something someday. Now, that’s starting to come true, as low-mileage examples are moving up in price. This 1993 RX-7 is offered by a private seller in Saginaw, Michigan, with just 28,000 miles for $32,500 — and it’s finished in red, which is undoubtedly the car’s best color.
Although the RX-8 is the next Mazda in line for “preserved” examples to begin reaching dealers, it’s still not quite old enough for prices to take off. This RX-8 is among the lowest-mileage examples on Autotrader, with just 52,000 miles — and yet it’s listed for a mere $6,500, making it a relative bargain compared to the other vehicles on this list. Look for these to someday increase in value, especially in good condition; this one’s offered by Green Country Auto Sales in Collinsville, Oklahoma.
