Although most of us experience SUVs with traditional crossovers like the Honda Pilot, Ford Escape or Toyota Highlander, there are some "super SUVs" out there with a price tag to match. These are six of the most expensive SUVs you can buy on Autotrader, all of which tout seriously high price tags and impressive offerings — whether it’s a lot of luxury, excellent off-road capability or serious performance. If you win the lottery and you want an SUV, you’ll probably want to consider one of these.
The G550 4×4 Squared is one of the most ridiculous vehicles ever created by an automaker, from the factory — though it pales in comparison to the even crazier G63 AMG 6×6. Still, this is a unique SUV, effectively a factory monster truck, with the giant fender flares, huge tires and portal axles to match. This G550 4×4 Squared is a little more special than normal, as the listing says it has upgraded power, courtesy of Mercedes-Benz tuner Brabus, along with a series of other desirable modifications — and an odometer that reads just 122 miles. It’s offered by The Motorcar Collection in Atlanta for $309,971.
The North American Specification 1993 Land Rover Defender 110 is often considered one of the most iconic SUVs ever sold — largely due to the vehicle’s rarity, as Land Rover sold just 535 examples in North America, all in 1993. Many 1993 Defender 110 models have been upgraded and modified over the years, and this is an excellent example of that: This one has been completely transformed to a more modern vehicle, with the looks to match — and now it’s offered by Park Place LTD in the Seattle area for $275,950.
Although a standard Hummer H2 is still surprisingly pricey, it would never make this list on its own — but this is no standard H2. This 2009 Hummer H2 is armored, with a long list of upgrades to make it largely bulletproof to most typical firearms. It also features other upgrades like a PA system and siren, gun ports and bench seats in back for armed security to sit. The market for this H2 is small, but if you really need it, you really need it — and it’s offered by a private seller in Panama City, Florida, with 3,460 miles for $275,000.
The Bentley Bentayga is one of the most expensive new SUVs on the market, though this particular Bentayga is a slightly used example. Finished in "Rubino Red" with a "Beluga" interior, this Bentayga has traveled around 3,500 miles from new, and now it’s offered by Cleveland Motorsports in the Cleveland area for $264,781. The Bentayga remains one of my favorite new cars, combining amazing performance, a supple interior and go-anywhere capabilities.
I wasn’t sure whether to classify this Wrangler as a truck or an SUV — but I figured I’d be safe, since it started its life as an SUV. These days, however, it’s a bit of both: It’s a standard Wrangler, given a pickup truck bed and a 6-wheel drive conversion, making it sort of a poor man’s Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6. Then again, it’s hardly a "poor man’s" anything: Although it falls well short of a 6×6’s price tag of $1 million (or more), this is still a pricey purchase, as it’s offered by Motorcars of Georgia in Atlanta with 6,030 miles for $249,800.
The Mercedes-AMG G65 is one of the craziest SUV models ever, as it’s an old-school, blocky, truck-like Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen with a massive, ultra-powerful V12 stuck under the hood. It’s truly impressive — and this is a brand-new example offered by W. I. Simonson, a Mercedes-Benz dealer in the Los Angeles area, for $235,725.
