Later today, I'm going to give you my thoughts on the new Audi R8 V10 Plus -- one of the most exciting cars I've ever driven on the street. But given the R8 V10 Plus's price tag of more than $200,000, it simply won't be available to most of us normal humans. So I've decided to showcase the cheapest V10-powered cars currently listed on Autotrader in order to give you a taste of V10 power that doesn't require spending six figures. Some of these cars probably aren't what you might expect -- so I've broken this up into a listing of the "heavy-duty" cars and the "fun" cars.

The Heavy-Duty Stuff

1999 Dodge Ram 2500

1999 Dodge Ram 2500 - $2,650

Yes, that's right: A V10 powers the Porsche Carrera GT, and the BMW M5, and the Dodge Viper, and also ... this old Dodge Ram 2500, with 163,000 miles. Offered for $2,650 by United Sports and Autos in Muskogee, Oklahoma, this Ram 2500 probably isn't what you think of when you think "V10" -- but, nonetheless, there's a V10 under the hood. It's an 8.0-liter unit with 300 horsepower and somewhere around 450 lb-ft of torque, and it was offered in manual or automatic guise in the Ram. This particular model is an automatic, meaning you won't be able to row through your V10's gears if you get it.

1997 Ford Econoline 350 Box Truck

1997 Ford Econoline 350 Box Truck - $2,990

Here's another vehicle you probably don't immediately consider when you think of a "V10." It's a 1997 Ford Econoline box truck, and it's offered for $2,990 by DeCoskey GM Center in rural Mount Vernon, Ohio, with 231,000 miles on the odometer. As in the Ram listed above, the V10 in this box truck was all about torque: It's a 6.8-liter unit, mated to a 4-speed automatic, with just 265 hp -- but 410 massive lb-ft of torque. That's likely enough to motivate this box truck, along with whatever load you want to stick inside.

2000 Ford Excursion

2000 Ford Excursion - $3,875

If you know SUVs, you're well aware the Ford Excursion was offered with a V10 -- and while it's an ongoing debate whether that engine is better than the SUV's available turbodiesel V8, there's no doubt the V10 was a monster. This particular 2000 Excursion is offered by Jim Trenary Chevrolet in the St. Louis suburb of O'Fallon, Missouri, and it's covered nearly 260,000 miles since new -- hence its asking price of just $3,875. Like the Econoline box truck above, the Excursion's V10 was a 6.8-liter unit -- though in the Excursion, it made a more muscular 310 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque.

The Fun Stuff

2007 Audi S6

2007 Audi S6 - $9,499

The Audi S6 is one of my favorite V10s, since it used a detuned version of the same engine in the Lamborghini Gallardo. This particular S6 -- offered for just $9,499 with 150,000 miles by Pro-Sport Motors near Philadelphia -- has some issues; specifically, the selling dealer notes it's an as-is sale, and the car needs its oxygen sensors replaced, which it says is a 20-hour job. It might be a good project for a do-it-yourselfer, since these cars were pretty impressive when running right. With 435 hp and 398 lb-ft, the S6 could run from zero to 60 in around 5 seconds flat.

2004 Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI

2004 Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI - $10,997

You're looking at the cheapest example of the ultimate Volkswagen Touareg. By now, most car enthusiasts know that Volkswagen sold a V10-powered turbodiesel version of the Touareg for a few years in the mid-2000s. Most car enthusiasts also know it was a monster: It had 310 hp but 553 lb-ft of torque, giving it more torque than any car on this list -- including the heavy-duty pickup truck, the box truck and the two performance sedans. And while some people say these Touaregs aren't the most reliable, this one has traveled more than 215,000 miles with its original owner -- and now it's for sale at Cosmo Motors in Hickory, North Carolina, for just $10,997.

2006 BMW M5

2006 BMW M5 - $14,489

Although there's one cheaper V10-powered M5 currently listed for sale on Autotrader, it "needs work" -- so I've instead chosen this one. What you're looking at is a 2006 M5, from the first year of the V10, currently listed for just $14,489 by Smart Chevrolet in rural Madison, North Carolina. One reason it's so cheap is the mileage; this M5 has traveled nearly 140,000 miles since new, which is high for a performance car like this one. But it's also the question of dependability, as many drivers shy away from these cars for fear of something expensive breaking. That may be true -- but at least this one won't cost a fortune to buy.
