- Jeep’s new Renegade to debut with Opening Edition model
- Opening Edition will offer white or orange exterior, other unique trim
- Renegade on sale in December; Opening Edition not confirmed for U.S.
A special Opening Edition trim level will help kick off Jeep Renegade sales when the compact SUV reaches dealers later this year. That’s the latest from Jeep, although the automaker hasn’t confirmed any specific details about exactly what to expect from the Opening Edition Renegade.
In leaked photos, however, it seems that the small Jeep will come in two available colors: Omaha orange and bright white. Other exterior revisions that will help distinguish the Jeep from standard models include a black roof, silver accents and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the Renegade Opening Edition will also reportedly feature a few upgrades over the base-level model, including a 6.5-in touchscreen and leather upholstery. The Opening Edition’s interior will also boast several unique touches, including a few panels — such as in the areas surrounding the gear lever, the speakers and the air vents — painted in the exterior color.
Under the hood, all Renegade models will feature two available engines, and Jeep hasn’t confirmed which one will launch in the Opening Edition. The automaker will have to choose between its 160-horsepower 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and a more powerful 184-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder that’s currently offered in the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart.
Jeep also hasn’t confirmed where the Renegade Opening Edition will launch. Some reports suggest that it’s destined solely for Europe, which is an important market for the upcoming compact crossover. Given Jeep’s popularity in the States, we think there’s a good chance that the Opening Edition might make its way here, too.
Either way, we’re excited to learn more about the Opening Edition and to see the Renegade in person. Expected to go on sale in December, Jeep’s latest compact crossover is set to compete in a growing segment against models such as the Nissan Juke, Kia Soul and Chevrolet’s upcoming Trax crossover.
What it means to you: The Jeep Renegade will go on sale in December, and Opening Edition or not, we suspect it’ll be a hit.
