The Karma is back. It's been updated and has a new(ish) name, but it's nevertheless back and set for deliveries this month. And to get the word out, Karma Automotive will launch its first 30-second TV commercial during the 2017 U.S. Open Polo Championship, which the American independent automaker is sponsoring.

The car in question is the Karma Revero, a car "designed, engineered and assembled in Southern California." If the name and car itself look familiar, that's because they began life as the 2012 Fisker Karma, the creation of famous car designer Henrik Fisker. who chose to power his voluptuous 4-door sedan with a variation of the Chevrolet Volt's plug-in hybrid powertrain. It was a green car that didn't look like one, but Fisker the automaker wouldn't last long, and the car eventually became the property of a new company that would bear its name: Karma Automotive.

Now that "green car that doesn't look like one" concept lives on in the Karma Revero. Besides a new headlight cluster, it pretty much looks the same inside and out. Powertrain details are thin, but the original plug-in hybrid internals have been enhanced. Electric-only range is now "up to 50 miles," indicating that the original Karma's 32-mile range has been improved. Total range is apparently as much as 300 miles. The battery is recharged by plugging it in and by regenerative braking, along with solar panels on the roof.

Performance is also up, as there's now 403 horsepower in total, with 0-to-60 mph estimates ranging from 5.4 to 7.2 seconds, depending on battery charge and the selected driving mode (Sustain, Stealth and Sport). That's about a second quicker than what the Fisker Karma was estimated at.

More information about the Karma Revero can be found at www.karmaautomotive.com.
