- KBB gives top spot to 2013 Nissan Pathfinder
- Honda had most cars on the list with three
- Honda Accord took second place
Kelley Blue Book (KBB) has officially named the 10 best family cars of 2013. The automotive analytics firm, known for its used-car values, announced that the cars on the list “cater to unique family specifications and situations.”
According to KBB, five of the 10 best family cars of 2013 are sedans. One is a wagon, one is a minivan and the remaining three are SUVs. Among the SUVs is the list’s number-one pick: the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder.
KBB says the 2013 Pathfinder earned the top spot by being “completely reinvented” with a “clever second-row seat.” The firm also says the new Pathfinder trumps the old model with “a more comfortable ride, better handling and greatly improved fuel economy.”
The Pathfinder wasn’t the only Nissan on KBB’s listing, as the Altima sedan finished in ninth place. But it was Honda that boasted the most cars on KBB’s list, earning three spots: The brand took second, fifth and eighth with the Accord, Odyssey and CR-V, respectively.
In awarding the Accord second place, KBB noted that “for over three decades the Honda Accord has set the standard for midsize sedans, and the latest model is no exception.” Of the Odyssey, KBB said that “Honda understands families,” and they mentioned that the CR-V offers “a smooth ride and an excellent value.”
Toyota occupied two places on KBB’s list, with the Prius v wagon and Avalon sedan coming in third and sixth. KBB liked the Prius v for its fuel economy, while the Avalon earned praise for the “high style” of the newly redesigned model and its reputation for reliability.
KBB said the Passat was the category’s “most satisfying car to drive,” while it dubbed the Fusion a “traditional family sedan with exotic-car design.” The Suburban earned its spot by acting as “the quintessential full-size SUV” for the family “whose cargo- and people-hauling requirements run to the extreme.”
What it means to you: If you’re on the hunt for a new family-friendly ride, the Kelley Blue Book listing of today’s top family cars is a great place to start.
