Maserati Levante SUV Coming for 2015, Alfieri Coupe for 2016

  • Maserati SUV expected to arrive in 2015
  • Alfieri coupe will follow soon after
  • Maserati ending production of its GranTurismo sports car

The Maserati Levante and Alfieri have officially been announced as the two latest models added to the Italian automaker’s lineup over the next two years. The high-end, high-performance brand recently released details about the two new models, confirming that one is an SUV — the Levante — and another is a sports car, dubbed the Alfieri.

The Levante will arrive first, with its debut set for sometime during the 2015 calendar year. Officially the first SUV to wear a Maserati badge, the Levante will offer standard all-wheel drive and two available V6 engines: one with 350 horsepower, and another with a muscular 425 hp.

While Maserati has not yet shown official photos of the production-ready Levante, the SUV’s design is expected to closely mimic the look of the brand’s Kubang Concept SUV. That model, which made its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2011, features traditional Maserati styling translated to a larger vehicle. The Levante is expected to rival established sporty luxury SUVs such as the Porsche Cayenne, BMW X6 and Range Rover Sport.

Next up after the Levante goes on sale will be the Maserati Alfieri coupe, which is scheduled to debut in 2016. Also not yet revealed in production form, the Alfieri is expected to closely resemble the brand’s Alfieri Concept, which was shown earlier this year at the Geneva Auto Show. Three flavors will be offered: a rear-wheel-drive V6 model with 410 hp, and all-wheel-drive versions with 450 or 520 horses. A convertible is also expected to join the lineup in 2017.

Beyond releasing details about the new models, Maserati also announced the cancellation of an aging one. The automaker says that 2014 marks the end of the line for the GranTurismo, which went on sale for the 2008 model year. That leaves Maserati with just the Ghibli and Quattroporte 4-door sedans until the Levante and Alfieri join the lineup in the coming years.

What it means to you: The Maserati Levante and Alfieri will help the brand reach its sky-high volume targets and assist with expanding the Maserati name to a new group of buyers.
