Picture it: You’re cruising along in your Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen, a serious off-road vehicle, one of the most capable vehicles on the planet, except you’re probably driving in an area where the most difficult obstacle you will encounter is a fast food straw wrapper, and you’re drinking an ice-cold lemonade. You take a swig. You go to set it down. But where do you put it, so that you don’t damage your pristine leather upholstery; leather upholstery that’s taken only from the finest cows; the kind of cows who would’ve attended the bovine equivalent of Harvard, or at least Duke?
The answer: You put it in the basketball hoop.
You do not, it should be noted, actually place your drink in a basketball hoop. You simply put it in a cup holder that looks exactly like one, which is standard on every Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. It’s located next to the center console.
Yes, that’s right, the G-Wagen has a cup holder that looks like a basketball hoop. Seriously, look at it in that picture. Can’t you just see yourself placing a drink in there, and your passenger says SWISH!!! And you think to yourself: Why do I still hang out with this person?
This brings us to the more pertinent question: WHY? And the answer is: because the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen is the age of dirt, or possibly whatever they had before dirt, and so when it was designed, they didn’t have any cup holders. This was back in the 1970s, back when nobody was thirsty. Eventually, however, the G-Wagen became more luxurious, and more luxurious, to the point where you can now buy one for more than $200,000, and so they needed cup holders. Their solution was to just tack on a foldable cup holder to the center console, netting and all.
And now, whenever you go to set down your drink in a G-Wagen, you stick it in the basketball hoop. SWISH! Find a Mercedes-Benz G-Class for sale
