- The Ford iPad app is dubbed “Showcase”
- The app lets dealers search their inventory
- Showcase streamlines car buying at Ford dealers
A new iPad app from Ford will help make the car buying process easier on shoppers. According to the automaker, its new “Showcase” app is designed to help dealers find the right cars for their customers more quickly than ever.
While revealing Showcase and displaying sample screenshots, Ford announced that the app will help dealership sales staff easily check inventory to see which vehicles in stock closely match the needs of a customer. That’s big news, says Ford, because it means that buyers don’t have to wait while sales consultants check inventory on a busy dealership computer or walk the lot in search of the right car.
“Waiting for the sales consultant to check the inventory or wandering the aisles of a car lot in search of just the right combination of colors and options can be a tedious and time-consuming process,” said Michelle Moody, Ford’s cross vehicle marketing manager. “If the weather is bad or the sun has gone down early in the winter months, venturing outside is even less appealing.”
The Ford iPad app also includes videos that exhibit options and safety features on its vehicles–good news for shoppers who are having difficulty deciding between items on the automaker’s ever-growing list of available equipment. It’s also important since some features, like inflatable seatbelts and side airbags, are virtually impossible to demonstrate at a dealership. The app can also email information about specific vehicles in stock directly to car shoppers, giving them time to consider the purchase or discuss it with friends and family.
Ford says it created the Showcase iPad app because shoppers were uncomfortable using experimental showroom kiosks installed in some dealerships to browse vehicles and features. In the future, the app will allow dealerships to retrieve custom builds created by shoppers on Ford.com and search dealer inventory to find vehicles that match those builds.
So far, nearly 200 Ford dealers nationwide have already signed up to use the Showcase app, which became available for them to download earlier this month.
What it means to you: The app will likely help streamline the notoriously challenging task of finding the right vehicle.
