ProPickup Expo Introduces New Pickup Lines

For those using the truck as a tool, Dallas’ ProPickup Expo provided course after course of aftermarket fare. And since time is money for commercial truck users, there’s an ongoing emphasis to save them both time and money. Although those savings are more important for those driving 1,000 miles a week than those driving 1,000 miles a month, we’ve selected a handful of options or services equally attractive on the daily commute or weekend getaway. Here are our choices for pickup lines worth using.

The Garmin dezl is the navigation tool for commercial truck drivers driving the interstates. But those features working for the long haul are easily applicable for the long weekend or extended vacation. As Garmin notes, the dezl provides a screen that is easy to see and, with extra loud speakers, easy to hear. And for those wanting to get in and out of big-city confusion with a minimum of freeway-induced angst, Garmin helps navigate complicated interchanges (with what they call Active Lane Guidance) and keeps you informed of any changes in road conditions. Again, the nav unit is intended for commercial drivers, but could make a big difference in your ability to enjoy a holiday over a long weekend.

With volatile changes in fuel prices this summer, we’ve all wanted to fill up when prices are low and avoid the pumps when prices tend to spike. That’s easier to do if your diesel pickup is equipped with a Titan fuel tank. With capacities of between 50 and 60 gallons, the Titan tanks retail for $1,200 to $1,500, requiring between two and four hours for installation. That 20- to 30-gallon capacity increase, of course, can provide another 200 to 300 miles of driving. If your truck provides little more than Point A to Point B transportation, the extra capacity will get you to Point C or D. And if you’re waiting for a drop in fuel price, an extra week’s worth of driving might make that wait worthwhile.

If time is money, then time lost is money lost. Reducing lost time is the goal of Chrysler Group’s BuinessLink, a proactive approach to commercial service from Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM dealerships. With special services, such as priority next-available bay service, extended hours and free loaner vehicles, BusinessLink looks to iron out the kinks in what is often a contentious business relationship. Membership is complimentary.

With the exception of Brad Pitt’s Benjamin Button, none of us are getting any younger. And if you’ve climbed up and out of your last pickup bed you might be ready for the Bedslide, a “why-didn’t-I-think-of-that?” solution to loading and unloading a pickup bed. The slide is a reinforced platform resembling a drawer, and it’s sized to fit a variety of mid-size and full-size pickups. With a load capacity of up to 2,000 lb, it can haul virtually anything–or everything–you’d put in the bed of a pickup. Bedslide prices start under $1K.

Of course, one of the more significant expenditures associated with truck ownership is tire replacement. As demonstrated at the ProPickup Expo, Toyo’s Open Country A/T works to minimize that cost with an aggressive tread design, a quieter ride and a 65,000-mile warranty. With a wide range of sizes available, Toyota’s new treads look like just the deal for your next on-road/off-road adventure.
