It's official: Ford will reveal an all-new version of its popular Escape SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The automaker recently announced the upcoming debut and other details about the compact SUV, including its engine options, the introduction of a new stablemate and even the color it will wear when the wraps are finally pulled off.

Although the Escape's biggest news is its first-ever clean-sheet redesign, we'll have to wait until the Los Angeles Auto Show to see the finished product. While we expect it to look like the sleek Vertrek Concept shown earlier this year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Ford is tight-lipped about the new Escape's finalized design - except to say it will be revealed in a new color dubbed "Ginger Ale," which was "named for its energy and refreshing qualities."

But while Ford is keeping the new Escape's design a closely-guarded secret, the automaker is openly discussing its plan for the upcoming SUV's engine lineup. According to Ford, the next-generation Escape will no longer offer a V6 engine or a hybrid powerplant, instead giving buyers a choice between three different four-cylinders: the current model's 2.5-liter, a 2.0-liter turbo borrowed from the upcoming Focus ST, and a 1.6-liter turbo, which is completely new to the U.S. market.

While the new four-cylinder engines will undoubtedly help boost the Escape's gas mileage, environmentally-conscious buyers are likely to mourn the loss of the miserly Escape Hybrid, which achieves an EPA-rated 30 miles per gallon in city driving. But according to Ford, the hybrid engine will remain - just not in the Escape. The automaker says the engine will instead be featured in its upcoming C-Max, a car-based hatchback already popular in Europe, which will offer traditional or plug-in varieties of the powerplant and no regular gasoline-powered engine choices.

Released in 2001, the Escape is consistently ranked among the most popular vehicles in the United States. In September, it recorded more than 20,000 sales, earning it sixth place among the most popular vehicles and first among compact SUVs.
