If you're looking for a used luxury car, you're probably thinking about going for a BMW, a Mercedes, an Audi or some other car that you refuse to let people eat in, even though you're the fourth owner, and they just want a Jolly Rancher. But you should instead buy a Lexus LS 460, because it's incredibly luxurious, incredibly reliable and incredibly cheap.

Here are all the details on the LS 460. This is not some 1990s Lexus, where the nicest feature in the whole car is a CD player. The LS 460 is Lexus's flagship vehicle even to this day; it was released in 2007 and has received only minor updates to its sheet metal and interior since then. In other words, if you buy a used LS 460, your friends might mistake it for a brand-new model.

Your wallet, however, will not. The average price for a 2007-2009 LS 460 currently listed on Autotrader is just $20,600, which is less than a third of the car's $65,000 sticker price just 10 years ago. It's an even smaller fraction of the current LS 460's base price, as the 2016 model -- with roughly the same design, mind you -- starts at $73,500 including destination.

Of course, all luxury cars depreciate -- we know that. But what separates a typical luxury car from the LS 460 is that the Lexus is insanely, ridiculously, wildly reliable. For proof, J.D. Power has given the LS its best-in-class reliability rating for years. And Consumer Reports once named it the best overall vehicle after it earned a score of 99 out of a possible 100 in the firm's tests.

In other words, unlike an aging European luxury car, you can get a great deal on an LS and not worry about major engine problems every time you turn it on.

Now, I admit that the Lexus LS 460 isn't exactly the most exciting luxury sedan on the road, in the sense that it's designed to insulate you from every possible negative exterior occurrence, including bumps in the road, bad weather, potholes, people with Kias, people who use the economy lot at the airport, people who go to Wal-Mart, etc.

But if you'll trade a little excitement for a lot of reliability and luxury, a used LS might just be the vehicle for you.
