As some of you know, the Mercedes-Benz B-Class is currently sold here in the United States as an electric vehicle. It’s officially called the Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive, it’s only offered with an automatic, and my friend Tom has one in bright green. See the Mercedes-Benz B-Class models for sale near you
This vehicle, currently listed for sale on Autotrader, is also a Mercedes-Benz B-Class — but it’s not electric. It’s not even an automatic. More importantly, it’s a 2009 model, which is a bit of a curiosity: While the B-Class went on sale globally in 2006, it wasn’t offered here (in electric form) until 2014.
In other words, this is an imported Mercedes-Benz B200, and it’s currently listed for sale on Autotrader from a private seller in Miami for only $5,700. Which is a pretty good deal for one of the rarest Mercedes models in the United States.
So, you might be wondering, how did this happen? Well, it’s worth noting the B-Class was sold new in Canada, possibly since its inception, as Canada has a larger market for small cars than the United States. I suspected this is a Canadian car that happened to end up in Florida, and the Carfax report suggests I’m right: It looks like it was sold new in November 2008 in Saint-Lambert, Quebec, which is just outside Montreal, and it was registered in Florida by the second or third owner in September 2016, with 108,000 miles. This is no surprise, as people from Montreal are constantly coming down to Florida in order to escape the most ridiculously awful winter one can imagine.
Of course, this B-Class is technically illegal — foreign-market cars can’t be imported to the United States until they’re 25 years old. But the Florida DMV is famous for not really paying much heed to this rule and registering anything with wheels if you’re willing to pay the fees and taxes. And so this B-Class is here in the States, titled in Florida and available for your purchase. Just don’t tell the feds. Find a Mercedes-Benz B-Class for sale
