ADDITIONAL MODEL INFORMATION

Although Porsche models are primarily associated with financial success and pricey options, you don't have to spend huge money to get a Porsche. All you have to do is buy a used one! For proof of this simple truth, I've rounded up six of the cheapest Porsches on Autotrader so that you can see how easy it is for you, a regular person, to own a Porsche.

It should be noted that there are two disclaimers. One is that I've decided to round up the six cheapest Porsches by model, rather than the six cheapest Porsches overall. Otherwise we'd have three 944s, two Boxsters, and a high-mileage Cayenne, and this list would be approximately as interesting as designing office supplies. And two: Just because you can afford to BUY these Porsches doesn't mean you can afford to OWN them. Keep that in mind as you browse these listings.

1986 Porsche 944 -- $4,987

This is the single cheapest Porsche on Autotrader: a white 1986 944 Coupe with 99,200 miles. It's offered for sale by Port Clinton Ford in Clinton, Ohio, and a quick glance at the photos reveals why it's so cheap: red fuzzy seat covers, an aftermarket steering wheel, a strange dashboard mat, and imperfections on the body and the interior. The Carfax report also shows one accident, from 1995, and reveals that the car has been sitting, largely undriven, for the last two years. But still, under five grand for a Porsche!

2002 Porsche Boxster -- $5,295

This is the next-cheapest Porsche on Autotrader: a 2002 base-model Boxster with 106,000 miles, offered by a private seller in El Segundo, California, right next to Los Angeles International Airport, for $5,295. Although this Boxster has the right look for a Porsche, it also has the dull Tiptronic automatic transmission, chromed wheels and a deteriorated rear window. Also, the current owner has had it for less than a year. Still, it's a Porsche for just over five grand -- and the Carfax report shows no accidents and a lifetime spent in Southern California.

2004 Porsche Cayenne S -- $6,405

Used Porsche Cayenne models are certainly getting cheaper, as this 2004 example proves. Offered by Audi Chantilly in the D.C. suburb of Chantilly, Virginia, this is the cheapest Cayenne on Autotrader -- and it's in surprisingly nice shape. Powered by a 340-horsepower V8, this Cayenne S is gray on gray with a factory navigation system and a well-kept interior. It does, however, need some work: Not only has it traveled 190,000 miles, but the dealership selling it notes that it needs new tires, hood struts and wipers in order to pass Virginia inspection, and also that the radio doesn't work. With that said, it has an accident-free Carfax report -- and at $6,405, it's the cheapest Cayenne on Autotrader.

1987 Porsche 924 S -- $6,997

Undoubtedly the nicest car in this group is this one: a rather clean 1987 Porsche 924 S offered by Porsche of Colorado Springs. While its $6,997 asking price may seem like an indication of poor quality, this 924 is rather nice-looking, with a well-kept body and a pair of racing seats on the inside. Indeed, this 924's problem isn't its condition, but rather that it's a 924, which is -- undeservedly -- the least-loved modern Porsche model. Of any car on this list, this 924 will probably cause the fewest headaches -- but it will also probably garner the least respect.

1985 Porsche 928 S -- $6,999

Now this is a real car. Welcome to the 1985 Porsche 928 S, a V8-powered Porsche that was initially intended to replace the aging 911. It was fast, it was sporty, and it was highly unique, with unusual styling and trick pop-up headlights. This particular example -- offered for just $6,999 by a private seller in the Denver suburb of Broomfield, Colorado -- features an unfortunate automatic transmission, a very 1980s burgundy exterior color, even-more-1980s BBS wheels and just 126,000 miles on the odometer. This one may seem tempting -- especially since it was, at one point, Porsche's flagship, but the 928 isn't known for being the most reliable Porsche.

1999 Porsche 911 -- $8,902

Speaking of questionably reliable Porsches, this 1999 911 is the cheapest 911 on Autotrader, with an asking price of just $8,902. Offered by Auto Dealers Wholesale in Tallahassee, Florida, it certainly looks nice -- but the advertisement calls it a "GREAT project vehicle," and further notes that it needs "a little work." Part of that work should focus on the interior, which is tremendously worn, or perhaps the headlights, which are cloudy -- but this car's needs probably don't stop there. Nonetheless, this 911 is offered for less than nine grand. And don't be fooled by the hardtop -- this 911 is a convertible. That's a selling point to me, though the Tiptronic transmission is more of a drawback.
