Porsche’s Boxster roadster is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and the German sports-car maker is celebrating the milestone with – you guessed it – a 25th anniversary edition Boxster.
Called the Boxster 25, this model is based on the powerful and high-end GTS 4.0 variant. Whereas even a base Porsche 718 Boxster is fast thanks to a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes 300 horsepower and enables a 4.9-second 0-60 mph time, this model uses a 6-cylinder that makes 394 hp and does 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds. You can get it with either a 6-speed manual transmission or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. And in case you’re wondering, it tops out at 182 mph.

Beyond its seriously fast manners and superb handling, the 25th anniversary Boxster stands out with distinctive looks that are a throwback to its original concept that wowed the world back in the 1990s. Among its aesthetics are Neodyme, which Porsche describes as a copper-like color that is sprinkled on various parts of the car. It’s most notable on the Boxster 25’s big 20-inch wheels and side air intakes. Other unique design elements include 25th anniversary badging inside and out, so you’ll always know you’re driving something special.
The Boxster 25 is a limited-edition model, making it even more significant. Just 1,250 will be made for the entire world. Porsche won’t say how many of those are allotted for the U.S.
If you want a Boxster 25, start saving now. When the 2021 Porsche Boxster 25 arrives this spring, it will carry a price of $98,600, plus $1,350 destination fee. That price of roughly 100 large is significantly more than the Boxster’s base price of $62,000, and well beyond the GTS 4.0’s cost of $86,800. But hey, how often do you get to celebrate turning 25?
