The Tokyo Auto Show is known for its futuristic, off-the-wall concept cars, and this year will be no different for Toyota. The automaker recently previewed three new concepts ahead of the show, each offering varying levels of realism and a slew of advanced design elements.

Perhaps the most likely Toyota concept car to make production is the FT-EV III, which is a fully electric version of the automaker's tiny iQ hatchback with a wild paint job. Following up on two other FT-EV concepts - one of which featured sliding doors - the FT-EV III was shown earlier this year in Geneva as the iQ EV.

While it's added a black and blue exterior finish and donned new wheels since Geneva, the FT-EV III's big news remains a lithium-ion battery capable of taking the hatchback up to 65 miles on a single charge. Although Toyota hasn't announced production plans for the electric iQ, we wouldn't be surprised to see this concept make it into dealerships in the next few years.

Less likely to make production is the FCV-R, which looks like a prototype Camry with a radical front end and wheels. Toyota says FCV-R stands for "Fuel Cell Vehicle - Reality and Revolution," and previews the automaker's desire to make a fuel cell vehicle commercially available by 2015. While Toyota hasn't announced many other details, the automaker did say the FCV-R is capable of a 430-mile range thanks to its 70 MegaPascal hydrogen tank.

By far the most bizarre of Toyota's Tokyo show concepts is the Fun-Vii, which stands for "Fun Vehicle Interactive Internet." Apparently offering an interactive exterior finish, Toyota says the Fun-Vii "heralds Toyota's vision of a future where people, cars and society are linked."

We'll know more about all three cars - and the rest of Toyota's Tokyo display, which includes a new rear-drive sports car and another member of the growing Prius family - as the show draws nearer.
