Toyota will finally show off the 2022 Tundra pickup in its entirety at 9:00 pm Eastern on September 19.
The slow reveal party was interrupted when a dealer trusted with advance information leaked a single redesigned truck photo. In response, Toyota posted a high-resolution photo showing the truck’s off-road-oriented TRD Pro trim level, and then slowly, the automaker gave us some details.
The new truck boasts a distinctive look with an enormous grille bearing what has to be the largest collection of badge lettering ever to grace one of the automaker’s products — aside from, perhaps, its heavy-duty forklift lineup. A black-painted A-pillar gives the truck a “helmet”-like look from the side. Inside, we know that camouflage-like upholstery patterns will be available.
The biggest leap forward may be underneath since the TRD Pro version — and possibly other Tundra pickups — discards last year’s leaf springs for a coil-sprung rear suspension. Such a setup should provide more off-road articulation while maintaining, if not improving, on-road comfort.
On Sunday, Toyota will give us all the details on its new truck lineup. Toyota says that the reveal will occur on its website, though the timing may coincide with the NFL football schedule since both evening games begin just 15 minutes later. See Toyota Tundra models for sale
