Uber Bike Electric Bicycle Rental Service Is a New Alternative to Car Ownership

When you think of Uber, you probably think of the app you use for hailing rides. While ride-hailing is the core of its business, there’s a little more to the company than that. In a new partnership with Jump, you can now rent an electric bicycle through Uber Bike.

Here’s how it works. You can use the Uber app that might already be on your phone to use the new service. It’s still a pretty new program and it’s still in its pilot phase, so, unfortunately, this service isn’t available to all Uber users yet.

If this service is available in your city, just use the app to find an available Jump bike, unlock it and ride it wherever you want, as long as it’s within the system area. When you’re done with the bike, just lock it up at a bike rack or at a designated hub.

Since these bicycles are electric, they take some of the work out of pedaling and can give you a boost of up to 20 miles per hour. This is especially useful when going uphill, and it just helps you to be less fatigued when you get to your destination.

Jump and Uber Bike are currently only available in a few major cities in the United States. If it goes well and continues to grow, a service like this could reduce car ownership, as it presents a new alternative for urban commuting and transportation.
