If you're like me -- obsessively interested in cars -- you were eager to see the new limousine used by the U.S. President during last year's Inauguration Day festivities. Cadillac was working on the limo, and there were many reports it would make its debut driving around President Trump during the inauguration.

Of course, that didn't happen. Instead, the regular old presidential limo -- dubbed "The Beast" and reportedly built on the platform that underpins the massively huge Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC TopKick trucks -- was rolled out for the inauguration, and we were told the new limo would be out soon. Well, it's been a year. Where's the new limo?

In May, Automotive News had a report on the new limo, noting that General Motors was still "fine-tuning" the vehicle for presidential use. The article also stated that "the contract between the Department of Homeland Security and GM had a March 30 completion date." So, that date was clearly missed.

In September, there were more rumblings about the arrival of a new presidential limo. Several outlets reported that spy photos had recently surfaced (as they seem to every few months), and others reported the new limo's arrival was "imminent." That was five months ago, and yet … no new limo. And no apparent new information about the new limo.

I'm curious about all this, but I'm especially curious to see the thing. Though several automakers vied for the chance to make past presidential limos, recent presidential administrations have favored Cadillac limousines -- and the latest one is now almost ten years old, as it was delivered to President Obama in 2009. That means it uses 10-year-old technology and 10-year-old Cadillac styling, as its looks are based off the then-new DTS sedan.

The latest limo is supposed to instead share styling cues with the handsome Cadillac CT6, the brand's latest full-size flagship. That is … assuming the limo is ever actually released.
