News flash: You can now buy a Porsche Turbo with 500 horsepower, all-wheel drive, a beautiful leather and wood interior, modern safety and convenience equipment, and a 0-to-60 time of 5 seconds flat … for $15,000.
You don’t have to be special. You don’t have to find a crazy deal from a shady place called Johnny’s Used Luxury Cars and iPhone Screen Repair. You don’t have to get a car that flooded in Hurricane Katrina and spent 3 weeks as a group home for eels.

I know what you’re thinking: “This guy’s an idiot! I wanted a sports car! And Johnny is a reputable businessman who replaced my screen while I bought an Acura!”
But while the Cayenne may not be an iconic Porsche sports car, the rest is completely true: An early Cayenne Turbo is now Nissan-Versa cheap. Used-Accord cheap. Corporate-lunch cheap. There are more than 30 different 2003-2005 Cayenne Turbo models currently listed on Autotrader, and the average asking price is $16,900. A few are under $13,000.
Thirteen grand! For a 500-hp Porsche Turbo! Can you imagine what will happen when you bring this thing to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 30 years? You’ll have it beautifully washed and waxed, you’ll drive it right on the lawn, and you’ll proudly display it next to the perfectly restored Duesenbergs and the vintage racing Ferraris, regaling people with the story of how you bought it way back in 2016 for $14,000. And onlookers will say: “If you don’t remove this car right now, we’re calling the police.”
So yes, the Cayenne Turbo will probably never be an icon like the 911. But I’ve driven these things, and I can tell you that they’re tremendously exciting on the road. You stomp your foot down and nothing really goes on for a second, but then the turbocharger kicks in, and you wonder if you’re living your own personal version of those little bank-teller tubes that bring documents into the bank at roughly the speed of light — except yours is the size of a camping trailer.
