2006-2010 Ford Fusion - Used Car Review

Ryan: Hi, I’m Ryan Lee

Gina: And I’m Gina Theodore

Ryan: You’ve selected AutoTrader’s Used Car review on the 2006 to 2010 Ford Fusion. Gina, this Ford Fusion seems really nice, but why choose it over another similar sedan like, say the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord?

Gina: Value, that’s why. The Fusion gets exceptional customer satisfaction ratings, but, being an American brand, it didn’t retain the same re-sale value of its Japanese rivals. Bottom line, lower resale value equals more car for your money… and a nice looking car, at that!

Ryan: You’re right! The sporty front end really does stand out compared to other mid-size sedans.

Ryan: So what can we expect under here?

Gina: Well, depending on year and trim, there are five engines ranging from a 160-horsepower, 2.3-liter, four-cylinder coupled with either a five-speed manual or five speed automatic transmission in the 06 to 09 models, up to the 2010 Sport model’s high-output 263 horsepower 3.5-liter V6 with a six speed automatic transmission. All-wheel-drive became available in the V6 Fusions in 2007.

Ryan: OK, so there’s plenty of power, but how fuel-efficient is the Fusion?

Gina: It does pretty well! Depending on the engine and transmission setup, the 2006 to 2010 Ford Fusions get between 17 and 22 miles per gallon/city and from 29 to 34 miles per gallon/highway.

Ryan: Competitive mileage, 263 horsepower, a six speed transmission, and all-wheel drive. That’s pretty impressive.

Gina: Motor Trend Magazine was impressed too; they named the 2010 Fusion, Motor Trend Car of the Year. And 2010 is an especially good year for the Fusion…Along with upgraded engines and transmissions, Ford restyled the Fusion’s exterior with this chrome three bar grill, these new angular headlights and this lower air intake with fog lights.

Gina: The Fusion has a nice interior too. Even in the 2006 base model you’ll find standard features like power door locks, remote keyless entry, air conditioning and an AM/FM stereo CD/MP3 player.

Ryan: I like the quick acceleration. The steering has a good solid feel, and it corners more like a sports car than a family sedan.

Gina: That’s thanks in part to its front and rear independent suspension and the variable assist power rack and pinion steering.

Ryan: Gina, the Fusion does really well in terms of performance, technology, style and ride, but what about the all-important area of safety?

Gina: The Fusion has gotten safer every year! The ‘06 model was only offered with front impact air bags, but by 2010, the Fusion offered four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes; AdvanceTrac electronic traction and stability control; plus Seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and a five-level front-passenger sensing system.

Gina: The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the 2006 Ford Fusion a rating of “Acceptable” for frontal offset impacts and “Poor” for side impacts. Better scores were received in 2007 with a top rating of “Good” for front, and “Acceptable” for side. 2008 and 2010 Fusions, equipped with side airbags, improved to “Good” for both.

Gina: One last thing to consider when you’re shopping for a 2006 to 2010 Ford Fusion is the wide selection of wheels ranging from 16 inch metal rims on the 2006 base model, to these 17 inch aluminums, up to the 18 inch premium aluminum wheels on the 2010 Sport model.

Ryan: And you gotta love the power windows with this handy driver’s side one-touch down switch.

Ryan: I’m Ryan Lee.

Gina: And I’m Gina Theodore.

Ryan: Thanks for shopping for your next vehicle right here at AutoTrader, the ultimate automotive marketplace.
