If you're interested in a new minivan, you've probably realized there aren't that many options to choose from, as automakers have moved away from vans in recent years and more toward SUVs. Still, there are a few good choices -- and two of today's most popular minivans are the 2015 Honda Odyssey and the 2015 Chrysler Town & Country. But which one is better? And which one should you buy for your family? To find out, we've created a close comparison between both models, but first let's see what's new with the Odyssey and Town & Country for the 2015 model year.

2015 Honda Odyssey

Following a host of updates last year, the Odyssey is completely unchanged for 2015.

2015 Chrysler Town & Country

Aside from a new trim level and some small shuffling of standard and optional features, the Town & Country is mostly unchanged for the 2015 model year.

Reliability

According to experts at J.D. Power, the Town & Country's reliability has been subpar, as the firm has given the minivan a rating of worse than average for several years in a row. It's a different story with the Odyssey, as Honda's van has earned average or above-average J.D. Power reliability scores in the last few years.

When it comes to warranty coverage, the Town & Country boasts a slight advantage: While both vans offer 3 years or 36,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage, the Chrysler's 5-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty tops the Honda's 5-year or 60,000-mile powertrain coverage. Still, we don't think that's enough to overcome the Chrysler's less-than-stellar J.D. Power ratings, so this category goes to the Odyssey.

Fuel Economy

Both the Odyssey and the Town & Country offer only one engine choice. In the Odyssey, it's a 248-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 that's mated to a standard 6-speed automatic transmission; it returns up to 19 miles per gallon in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The Town & Country's sole engine option is a more muscular 283-hp 3.6-liter V6, which also uses a 6-speed automatic. Unfortunately, its fuel economy numbers fall short of the Odyssey's, as it only reaches as high as 17 mpg city/25 mpg hwy.

Safety

In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash testing, the Odyssey earns a perfect 5-star overall score to the Town & Country's mediocre 4-star score. Likewise, the Odyssey earns an excellent Top Safety Pick designation from the nonprofit Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, while the Town & Country falls short of that rating thanks to a troubling Poor score in the firm's small front-overlap crash test.

As for safety features, the Odyssey offers some major benefits over the Town & Country. While the Town & Country touts some modern gadgets -- including rear cross-traffic alert, a blind spot monitoring system and a standard backup camera -- the Odyssey offers additional equipment, such as forward-collision alert, a lane-departure warning system and a multiangle camera system.

If safety is a huge priority -- and it should be if you're interested in a minivan -- there's no doubt the Odyssey offers some major benefits over the Town & Country, both in terms of crash protection and safety features.

Technology

When it comes to technology, there's no doubt that the recently revised Honda Odyssey offers some major benefits over the aging Chrysler Town & Country. We've already covered a few of the Odyssey's safety advantages over the Town & Country, but it doesn't stop there: Honda's van also boasts a wide range of improved comfort and convenience gadgets compared to the Town & Country, including an available integrated vacuum cleaner, xenon headlights, a power lift gate, a surround-sound audio system, a chilled glove box and more.

To us, this one is simple: While the Town & Country offers basic high-tech features such as an infotainment system and a rear-seat entertainment system, the Odyssey goes above and beyond to offer the latest in technology and equipment.

Value

If you've been following along so far, you've probably realized that the Odyssey has won virtually every category over its Town & Country rival. Naturally, that means most drivers will want to choose the Honda -- or will they? After all, if the Odyssey is far more expensive than the Chrysler, maybe drivers could live with the Chrysler's shortcomings in order to get a better deal.

But the Odyssey isn't far more expensive than the Chrysler. In fact, a base-level Odyssey is actually cheaper than the Town & Country, with a starting price of around $30,300 compared to the Town & Country's starting MSRP of just under $31,000. And while the Town & Country comes surprisingly well-equipped from the factory, it still has some major drawbacks compared to the Odyssey, including gas mileage, reliability and crashworthiness. As a result, we think the Odyssey wins the value category.

Autotrader's Advice

Although the Chrysler Town & Country has been a great minivan in the past, today's model doesn't quite stand up to rivals such as the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna. Compared to the 2015 Chrysler Town & Country, the 2015 Honda Odyssey offers a lower starting price, more available technology, better safety ratings, more safety equipment, more gadgets and improved reliability. Unless we were offered a really, really good deal on a Town & Country, we'd take the Odyssey every time.
