What's New for 2015?

The McLaren P1 is all new for the 2015 model year.

What We Like

Amazing performance, styling and technology

What We Don't

Expensive price tag and ownership costs; impracticality

Overview

The 2015 McLaren P1 isn't a sports car or an exotic car. It's a complete supercar, sharing the absolute top end of the high-performance car market with the likes of the Porsche 918 Spyder and the LaFerrari. It's a once-in-a-decade hypercar, and it's packed with all the latest technology, including a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Don't assume that this car is a fuel-sipping plug-in hybrid like the Chevy Volt, though. On the contrary, the P1 combines a 727-horsepower 3.8-liter turbocharged V8 with a 177-hp electric motor for a total output of 904 horses. The result is 0-to-60 in just 2 seconds and a top speed of nearly 220 miles per hour. In essence, this is a race car for the road.

But as it turns out, the P1 isn't all about performance. The sporty 2-seat coupe also boasts some surprisingly luxurious standard features, including a Meridian sound system and three central screens: a 7-inch screen in the middle and two smaller 3-in screens on either side. There's also a navigation system and full climate control.

Interestingly, the 2015 McLaren P1 can also function as an electric vehicle, and its 177-hp electric motor can power the hypercar for up to 6 miles at speeds as high as 99 mph. The P1 is therefore cleaner than most traditional economy cars when it's cruising along in electric mode.

What does all this technology, performance and luxury cost? About $1.15 million before options, according to McLaren. But don't worry about coming up with the money, because all 375 production examples are already spoken for.
