What's New For 2016?

The GranTurismo is unchanged for the latest model year.

What We Like

Fun to drive; has rear seats; not too expensive for a Maserati

What We Don't

Old design; not as fast as many rivals; big depreciation costs

Overview

The 2016 Maserati GranTurismo is a rear-wheel-drive sports car that's offered in two body styles: a coupe and a soft-top convertible known as the GranTurismo Cabriolet. On sale since 2008, the GranTurismo is likely enjoying its last few years before a hotly anticipated full redesign.

Two GranTurismo models are available: the standard GranTurismo (also called the Sport) and the MC, which is short for Maserati Corse (that last word is Italian for "racing"). Both use the same 4.7-liter V8 engine, which touts 454 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. Both also use the same 6-speed automatic, which is surprisingly smooth for an exotic car like the GranTurismo.

Separating the Sport from the MC are some styling details, some equipment changes and some differences between the cars' driving characteristics. For example, the MC adds 20-inch alloy wheels, a suede headliner in coupe models, a carbon-fiber hood and carbon-fiber interior accents, along with a firmer suspension system for better handling.

Otherwise, both cars offer roughly the same level of equipment. Standard features include automatic wipers, leather upholstery with heated front seats, an 11-speaker Bose stereo, dual-zone automatic climate control and front and rear parking sensors. Options primarily include appearance upgrades, like painted brake calipers, interior piping, contrast stitching and more.

Despite its exotic-car status, the 2016 Maserati GranTurismo is surprisingly inexpensive, at least for a Maserati. Prices start around $134,000 for a coupe or about $147,500 for a convertible, while MC versions start around $155,000 before options.
