What’s New for 2017?

The 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT adds a base model with a little less power. While last year’s version was dubbed simply the "GT S," the new base model is called just the GT. The AMG GT lineup also adds a new AMG Aerodynamics package for 2017.

What We Like

Beautiful styling; impressive performance; surprisingly reasonable price tag for an exotic Mercedes

Overview

If you’re looking for a new car with the 3-pointed star on the hood, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT is the coolest thing you can get right now. Featuring sleek styling, an amazing engine and excellent performance, the GT is the new flagship coupe in the brand’s model range.

The GT picks up right where the popular SLS AMG left off, though the newer version makes two distinct changes. For one, the SLS’s unique gull-wing doors are gone, replaced instead by traditional doors with normal hinges. Additionally, the price tag is very different. The GT starts at "just" $112,000 with shipping (figure $20,000 more for the GT S), while the SLS was well over $200,000. The GT is also missing the SLS’s convertible variant, though that’s on the way for 2018.

So what’s the GT like? Thrilling, thanks to a standard turbocharged 4-liter V8 that makes big power: The base-level GT model offers 456 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque, while the top-end GT S boasts 503 hp and 479 lb-ft. Zero to 60 comes below 4 seconds for both models.

Not surprising given its Mercedes-Benz badge is the fact that the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT is luxurious, too. It touts a long list of standard features, including automatic high beams, front and rear parking sensors, keyless access with push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a navigation system with an 8-inch center display. Of course, there’s also a wide range of personalization options, so you can have your AMG GT just about any way you like.
