I get why minivans have kind of a fuddy-duddy reputation: They can be a little square and not exactly sleek. After driving the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid for about two and a half months, I’m not gonna say it’s a fierce, sexy ride. But I will say that it ticks so many boxes for me and my family — including its awesome storage and spacious seating.
This hefty vehicle comfortably seats seven (the non-Hybrid version seats eight, but the hybrid needs some extra space to house the lithium-ion battery pack), so if you have a big family, or are in a constant carpool rotation, this is a stellar choice. There are just three of us in our lil fam, so we have lots of empty seats these days. I really should be volunteering to take the kids in the neighborhood for ice cream or something.
What stands out to me is how easy it is to fit stuff in the back. We just moved to North Carolina from Massachusetts in late May, and I am blown away by how much we’ve been able to cram into the back of the Pacifica. Two weeks ago, we loaded a 6.5-foot tall cabinet into the back with relative ease. The seats were pretty easy to remove (after a few attempts) and there was still room for my five-year-old’s car seat. I have to say, it’s always a plus for us to NOT have to hire a babysitter simply because we’re going furniture shopping and need all the cargo space we can get.
Shopping is lot more fun when you know you have a whopping 172.8 cu ft. of cargo space to play with. The 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid’s supreme spaciousness means there’s ample room for sports equipment, grocery store hauls and antique must-haves. The Pacifica crushes the competition in this area (the Toyota Highlander Hybrid has 83.7 cu ft., and the Volvo XC90 Plug-In Hybrid has 85.7), and I have to say, I love, love, love the extra space. We also have a Toyota RAV4 — which has surprised us many a time with how much we can shove into it — but the Pacifica blows the RAV4 outta the water. Again, this is what makes a minivan so much fun.
Practice Makes Perfect
I will say that moving the seats down, or taking them out completely, takes a little practice, and a little muscle. I wouldn’t want to do it every day. But when you know you’ve got a trip to Costco coming up, or if you need to move a hefty piece of furniture, it’s well worth the effort.
Having such a roomy minivan makes me want to shop. Like, all the time. I want to see how much I can possibly cram into this thing. I won’t, but it’s tempting. We are heading out for a mini road trip in a week, though, so I’m sure we’ll pack it to the gills, and get positively giddy in the process. Find a Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid for sale
