I had hoped that after putting in a little more time with our long-term certified pre-owned 2017 Infiniti Q50, I would find it had grown on me. The truth is, I like the car overall. It’s a solid performer with decent horsepower and sporty handling. And I really love the exterior styling. It has an aggressive look, and I love the clean, sculpted bodylines. It’s an attention-getter for sure.
But once I climb inside, I feel a bit overwhelmed with all the techy gadgetry. There are controls for the infotainment system everywhere! They’re on the steering wheel, the console and the dashboard. And it’s not as intuitive as other systems I’ve used. Frankly, just give me a simple, easy-to-use navigation system and a good sound system and I’m happy. However, there are plenty of people out there who will love all the advanced tech — this is a very personal preference.
Gas mileage isn’t what I expected, either. I’ve only averaged 18.5 miles per gallon in combined driving. That falls far short of the EPA’s 22 mpg combined rating.
There’s a bright side to all this negativity. I love the smooth ride, and the seats are really comfortable. I also love that the seats have adjustable bolsters. Oddly, it’s almost as if Infiniti wanted to keep that feature a secret, as the control is concealed on the side of the seat and practically hidden once you sit down.
