Chrysler has been busy lately. In recent weeks, the automaker has released updated versions of many models, from the Jeep Patriot and Wrangler to the Town and Country minivan, and even a revised Sebring called the Chrysler 200. Next up is the Dodge Charger, which gets updated powertrains, a new interior, and a heavily beefed-up new look for 2011.

At first glance, the 2011 Charger looks like a 2010 Charger on steroids. From the front, the new Charger's blown-up upper and lower grilles and bulged hood give the large sedan a more aggressive, muscular stance. And new athletic creases on the doors look like they've been pulled straight from the high-performance Nissan GT-R.

But the most noticeable change to the Charger's exterior comes around back, where tail lights have been extended across the entire rear end, mimicking the Charger's two-door Challenger stablemate. Dodge says the new lights are composed of 164 LED lamps, which increases visibility – and certainly gives the Charger a little more flash.

Chrysler says it's reworked the Charger's interior, too, although the automaker hasn't released any photos yet. Still, if changes to the Charger's cockpit are anything like those made on other 2011 Chryslers, we expect a much more upscale environment.

Other changes for 2011 help the sedan remain competitive despite an aging basic design. Most importantly, Chrysler has confirmed the revised Charger will get the automaker's new Pentastar V6 engine, ditching its outdated 2.7- and 3.5-liter sixes. Final details aren't yet available, but the new engine will probably put out around 290 horsepower – 40 more than the Charger's current 3.5-liter. The new engine will be installed in the Charger SE and Rallye, with the Charger R/T retaining Chrysler's familiar 5.7-liter Hemi V8.

Chrysler will also offer new technology in the 2011 Charger, including a back-up camera, a blind-spot monitoring system with a warning for cross-traffic when reversing, and even adaptive cruise control – a feature normally reserved for high-end luxury cars. To help save fuel, Chrysler has also included an available all-wheel drive system which automatically disconnects the front axle when AWD isn't needed.

According to Chrysler, the new Charger should be on sale by the end of the year. As a result, we expect to see an updated Chrysler 300 soon, as the models share a platform, basic architecture, and powertrains. Sadly for wagon fans, though, we don't expect the Magnum to make a comeback.
