The writers at AutoTrader have graciously decided to "open up" and admit their romantic longings for that one new car that, until now, they have mostly just kept quiet about. Enjoy the musings of our automotive gurus and guresses as they confess their secret car crushes.

2011 Chrysler 300

She's so good, she's bad – and so good at being bad, she's irresistible. I liked her, of course, from the beginning. But between her grown-up good looks and less-than-refined intellect, she was trouble for sure. Better to give her time, seasoning and some adult-like reasoning. A half-decade later, she is so worth the wait – and so worth the time. As spring training approaches, I’m batting 300 – and (hopefully) in her ballpark. If only I could bring her home to the folks…

2011 Cadillac CTS-V Wagon

You're everything I don't believe in and yet I can't stop thinking about you. I'm all about fuel economy and treading lightly. You're all about dissolving rubber onto pavement as you race to 60 miles per hour in a scant four seconds. I am easily overlooked in a crowd. You cause a crowd to gather wherever you go. I am a lowly journalist. You are the impeccable Cadillac CTS-V Wagon. I don't love you, I lust for you. You are my weakness, my Black Swan, my liberal lamentation, my guilty pleasure and someday, you will be in my garage (right next to my Subaru Outback).

– Joe Tralongo

2011 Volvo S40

I’m drawn to the Volvo S40 like I'm oddly drawn to Gary Oldman, meaning, I cannot explain it, really. And no, it's not because Edward drives one in the Twilight series (although it did give the sedan a little more sex appeal to have a vampire drive it at its maximum speed to save the damsel in distress). But every time one passes me, or I pass it, I pause and think, "that's a great car." It must be my subconscious telling me to go for what I’m not normally drawn to: reliability, safety, practicality and 30 mpg highway.

2011 Mercedes G55 AMG

If you're a green-minded vehicle buyer, the cars you secretly love are the ones other greenies would give you the stink eye for even thinking about owning – big, loud, luxurious and obnoxiously cool. For me, the Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG fits that bill perfectly. It's a vehicle that looks and behaves like the SUVs of old, back when they were direct descendants of military-grade utility vehicles – no apologies, no compromises and no excuses for horrible mileage. The thing is ugly, but it excels at what it's meant for – off-roading – and adds a ridiculous amount of luxury and performance to boot.

2011 smart fortwo

Granted, he's not sexy, but the first time I saw this puppy pony into a tight parking space in Paris, I blushed. Truly, the smart fortwo has the cute quotient going on. Numero uno, this tot of a vehicle garners huge audience participation – everyone wants a piece of you when you're driving it! Number two, the urban savvy smart car is a blast to tool around in – it's got pluck, a colorful personality and fits into any space. But what makes this car crush-worthy is simply this. Driving the smart fortwo makes me feel fun, funny, young and exceedingly eco-hip.

Chevrolet Tahoe

I don't tow, drive in the snow or go off road and I probably never will. That makes my secret crush all the more odd. Occasionally I voice my secret crush, but my friends all laugh. They like sport sedans, the kinds of cars that constantly nag you about the sort of driving they'd rather be doing. Despite everything pointing against it, there's something about the Chevrolet Tahoe that I can't let go. It looks amazing inside and out and is very versatile. Like a long lost college girlfriend, the Chevy Tahoe is familiar and easy to spend time with.

– Brian Moody

2011 Infiniti G37S Sedan

In most people's books, the phrase "sports sedan" and BMW 3-Series are synonymous. And, to even consider a Japanese car over any German one is blasphemy at its purest. That said, my love really is different than the other cars out there. I love – am absolutely obsessed with – the Infiniti G37S. With 330 horses, razor-sharp handling, a flowing exterior and a beautifully appointed interior, she reminds me of an Olympian athlete in an evening gown. BMW purists might turn their noses up to my little race car, but as for me, I'd rather (quietly) root for the underdog.

– Davis Adams

2010 Honda Element

OK, go ahead and laugh. Yeah I like the Honda Elephant. You would too if you'd ever driven the manual transmission version. No vehicle that tall and boxy should corner like the Element does when shredding back roads with the rally-style dash-mounted manual shifter.

And what could be more exciting than the Element's signature feature: a rear hatch through which the driver can stand while changing clothes without incurring an indecent exposure ticket. How great is that? Honda said, "We know you are going to be naked in public so we'll help try to avoid those annoying arrests."

– Dan Carney

2011 Ford Explorer

We have to love the Explorer in secret because it's a family hauler – an under-appreciated do-everything car, which thanklessly swallows entire families and their gear on road trips, tolerates years of abuse from kids and pets, and can always be counted on to start even in the worst weather conditions. Valets will never park it up front and it'll never start a conversation at a stoplight, but that doesn't mean we can't secretly love its handsome new bodywork, great engines, and neat technologies like MyFord Touch, Sync, and MyKey – even if it doesn't wrap them in a sexy sports car exterior.

– Jeffrey Archer

2011 BMW X6 xDrive35i

Before now, I've only shared this secret with those I knew would understand, who might have had similar experiences. Some people hold low opinions of SUV drivers in general and BMW drivers in particular, but the X6 xDrive35i – wow. It's not really an SUV, it's not practical enough, given its swooping roofline. And everything about it runs contrary to my usual tastes of low center of gravity and light weight. But with that twin-turbo straight six making 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, all-wheel drive giving incredible grip... I even like the looks.

– Colin Ryan

2011 Bugatti Veyron 16.4. Super Sport

My mother warned me about the really fast bad boys. But I am so drawn to this one anyway, even though he's European, so rich, and way out of my league. His looks, his sound, his leather all excite me beyond belief. But the real attraction is – his speed. He's the best in the world. I long to unleash those 16 cylinders and 1200 horsepower that will vault me into hyperspace and another galaxy.

– Jean Halliday

If we gave you any good ideas about cars you may have previously overlooked, we suggest you find your own secret crush. However, since confession is good for the soul, we don't recommend you keep it such a deep, dark secret.
