Overview
Dodge’s certified pre-owned (CPO) program has two warranty components. The brand’s bumper-to-bumper warranty runs for 3 months or 3,000 miles from the expiration of the original bumper-to-bumper warranty. If the original bumper-to-bumper warranty is already expired when you buy the car, the CPO warranty starts on the day you purchase the vehicle. Meanwhile, Dodge’s certified pre-owned program also includes a powertrain warranty that runs for 7 years or 100,000 miles from the car’s original sale date. Both warranties are fully transferable to future owners, and each requires a $100 deductible per repair visit.
What We Like
Long powertrain warranty; fully transferable; special financing rates
What We Don’t
Extremely short bumper-to-bumper warranty; $100 deductible
Program Specifics
If you’re thinking about buying a used Dodge, you may want to consider the brand’s certified pre-owned program. It offers manufacturer-backed peace of mind that goes above and beyond the original factory warranty.
The best part of Dodge’s CPO program is the powertrain warranty, which extends the original powertrain warranty from 5 years or 100,000 miles to 7 years or 100,000 miles. That makes it among the best powertrain warranties in the industry, tied with brands such as Honda and Toyota.
Unfortunately, Dodge’s bumper-to-bumper warranty isn’t quite so generous. It only lasts for up to 3 months or 3,000 miles from the date the original bumper-to-bumper warranty ends. If the bumper-to-bumper warranty is already expired when you buy your car, it instead begins the day of your purchase. This is among the shortest bumper-to-bumper warranties in the industry, as most automakers offer a year (or more) of additional coverage.
Dodge’s certified pre-owned program is also disappointing when it comes to the warranty deductible. While many rival automakers boast no deductible, Dodge charges $100, which isn’t a small figure to shell out for every warranty repair We do, however, like the fact that the warranty is fully transferable, which is a big benefit for those who decide to sell their car before the warranty expires. It also provides roadside assistance, a 3-month satellite-radio trial and a rental-car allowance of $35 per day for up to 5 days during covered repairs.
Although we don’t think Dodge’s certified pre-owned program is industry-leading, we appreciate the long powertrain warranty and the full transferability. The brand also sometimes offers special financing rates on its certified pre-owned cars, which can further enhance their appeal compared to traditional used vehicles.
